Traci Eggleston, the local office director for the Johnson County Department of Child Services (DCHS), holds the microphone for Daisey Dyer as she speaks about her positive experience in foster care at the Pinwheels for Prevention event outside the Johnson County DCHS building in Franklin, Ind. The Pinwheels for Prevention event was designed to raise public awareness for child abuse and the services available to prevent such acts from happening. Attendees planted a garden of pinwheels outside the Department of Child Services building. Dyer, 19, currently attends Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus where she studies nursing. Because of her positive experience in foster care she plans on becoming a foster parent after college. Johnson County had 3,272 reports about suspected child abuse in 2013 of which 212 were substantiated. Mike Wolanin / Daily Journal
