Micki Howard of Indianapolis practices using her hand to strike an attacker in the Girls on Guard self-defense class, Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, inside the Purdue Extension building at the Johnson County 4H Fairgrounds in Franklin, Ind. The self-defense class was taught by Jeff Patterson an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officer and martial arts expert.
