Lian Maung, age 35, is a Burmese immigrant working at KYB in Franklin. Maung immigrated to the United States four years ago seeking asylum from the political strife in his home country of Burma. About a third of the work force at the KYB manufacturing center in Franklin are Burmese immigrants that came to the United States as refugees. Maung servers as a go-between, between management and the Burmese employees. He translates important company policy documents into Chin, a language dialect in Burma, and also works as an interpreter during meetings between management and the Burmese employees. Maung has worked for KYB for 10 months and teaches English to the Burmese employees after work hours. Mike Wolanin / Daily Journal
