Jon Templeman shows his scar from a surgery to remove a tumor from his right ear in Edinburgh, Ind., Friday, April 17, 2015. Templeman, a Marine Corps veteran, traveled to USC in California in March to have a tumor removed from his right ear. The surgery left him deaf in his right ear and without the ability to balance. Templeman describes the feeling of not being able balance as being drunk without the side effects of consuming alcohol. He is conditioning his brain through balancing exercises to rely on his left ear for balance. Mike Wolanin / Daily Journal
