An excavator removes dirt from where the Whiteland Community High School's football field once was on Thursday as part of more than $3 million in upgrades to the athletics facilities. Artificial turf will be installed on the football field, and the marching band will get a designated practice field. The current locker rooms will be expanded by 5,860 square feet, with enough space inside for a football meeting room. The current track will also have extra lanes added to accommodate larger track and field tournaments. All construction should be done by July 15, in time for football season in August.
