Construction is underway on more than $3 million in upgrades to the athletics facilities at Whiteland Community High School. Artificial turf will be installed on the football field, and the marching band will get a designated practice field. The current locker rooms will be expanded by 5,860 square feet, with enough space inside for a football meeting room. The current track and field will also have extra lanes added to accommodate larger track and field tournaments. All construction should be done by July 15, in time for football season in August, Superintendent Patrick Spray said. All projects are on schedule, and weather has been cooperative so far, Spray said. Over the next month, residents can expect to see dump trucks moving back and forth in the football stadium, prepping for the artificial turf installation later this year, he said. So far, construction crews have mostly hauled material to the high school and prepared the land for upgrades, Spray said. Scott Roberson / Daily Journal
