Caption: Dyed bundles of broomcorn, a type of sorghum, sit in on the shelves in Brian Newton's studio in downtown Nashville. Newton grows the broomcorn himself, then harvests it and dyes it by hand. He has dedicated his life to preserving the pioneer-style crafting of brooms using broomcorn, a type of sorghum. He makes the broom using machines from the 19th and early 20th century.
