Motorist travel on North Main Street on Monday. North Main Street is open once again, after dealing with detours and construction crews for nearly three months. The city of Franklin re-opened North Main Street on Saturday morning. Construction workers were replacing pipeline, upgrading the gutters, curbs and sidewalks and pouring new asphalt on North Main Street, from U.S. 31 to Graham Street. This was the last phase of the $4.7 million project to improve North Main Street.

Drivers will still notice some flaggers or crew members directing traffic in the future as construction workers finish up the last coat of asphalt on North Main Street, Franklin city project manager Mark St. John said. The road will not be closed again, but could be restricted to one lane of traffic, St. John said.

Landscaping along North Main Street, including replacing sod, also needs to be completed, and will be done as soon as possible, St. John said. Other than the landscaping and a surface layer of asphalt, the construction work on North Main Street is done, he said. No deadline has been set for when the remaining aspects of the project will be done, St. John said. Scott Roberson / Daily Journal
